We’ve finally gotten to that point! We get to create our team, and manage it ourselves! We have already created a team together, so if you are unsure of how to do that, you can check out how to make one. Now, we need to make sure the channels are the most efficient that they can be. There are a few cool things that we can do.
Adding Your Tab
Adding a tab is an amazing feature that can up your ability to communicate with your team. The best part about adding a tab is that it can be pretty much any app that is available in Microsoft 365 , and even a ton from outside of Microsoft, is available to be placed as a tab in your Team. For example, we are going to use something that should be put in every project teams' general channel... Planner. To add your planner to the tabs, all you need to do is click on the + that is located beside your last tab.
It will then pop you up a huge list of apps that you can add to it. If the app that you are looking for is not on this list, you can click on the More apps and it will bring you right to the Teams store.
As you can see, there are a ton of different options you can use for productivity. Anything from putting a list, a word document, a document library, and even a Power BI table or Power App. As I said, for us today, we are going to take a look for Planner. If it’s not on the main screen, go search for it in the search box. For us, it is just the first one called Tasks by Planner and To-Do.
Once you have selected Planner, you are going to get the chance to either start a new one, or import a Planner that has already been created. You can also post in the channel if you want to let everyone in the team know that it exists now, without having to message the group. Now you can access your planner at all times, right from teams.
Other Examples
Just think about what you can do by adding tabs to the top. Here’s an example: You have developed a product that you want to release to a small number of people as a beta test. They have accepted and have downloaded and are using your product. You can create a team for your beta team, and then create a channel-specific to the product in question. You then need a way for them to give you feedback in a nice organized fashion. The fastest and easiest way would be to create a feedback form (which you can learn how to do here) and then just post it as a tab in that channel.
The last idea I will leave you with for adding tabs to your team is simply just putting your OneNote, wiki, or even your meeting notes in your general chat. This way, everyone on the team has access to them, if someone misses a meeting or has questions, they are easily accessed. I would always suggest using OneNote for this, as you can create numerous sections, numerous workbooks, and keep track of everything all in one space.
As you can see, Teams has made it easier than ever for you to make your day the most efficient. You can place a ton of outside things right into your teams' channels, and make the organization of your work super easy and painless. If you need any more ideas for tabs or just general Teams structure, let us know!
